This recipe comes to me by way of the book Food Matters by James Colquhoun, Laurentine Ten Bosch and Emma Sgourakis. I altered it a little of course but it still came out delicious and I certainly felt the benefits of mental uplift, clarity, and ground!
- 1 large grapefruit, cored and de-pipped
- 1/2 inch ginger, peeled
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp natural vanilla extract
- agave- maple flavored or maple syrup to taste
- 8 ice cubes
Blend on high until smooth! Then enjoy by sipping on a hot day
Of note: According to the book cinnamon has great blood sugar regulating properties and when mixed with coconut oil and grapefruit is especially effective for boosting metabolism. It’s also of note that grapefruit is rich in natural vitamin C and antioxidants, contains compounds that boost the production of liver detoxification enzymes, and also contains a flavonoid compound known as naringenin that causes the liver to burn fat rather than store it.
